Wolds Way (South Cave to Market Weighton)

The Cranswick Walking Club (Minus Mr Simms) embarked on the second leg of The Wolds Way Saturday the 26^th of August. This leg started from South Cave with the intended destination (and après hike) set for Market Weighton.
In a Blair Witch type start to the walk the first house (seemingly deserted) turned out to be the possible home of a witch after a broom stick was spotted in the back garden. Mint however was already eyeing up the said property for him and his Bev.
On reaching Market Weighton the characters tried to find a pub showing the Challenge Cup Final.

Wolds Way (Hessle to South Cave)

Having watched the weather forecast for the last couple of days promising anything from light showers to torrential rain Jarv & Mint found themselves at Hessle Haven in sunshine shimmering off the Humber. Although only the two characters were taking part in the walk Mint found himself befriending a rather simple pikey early doors who showed every intention in joining the expedition. A brisk "F.O." had to be finally issued.

The walking early doors was fairly easy apart from some walking on the chalk shingle on the banks of the Humber were Mint discovered he had some muscles in his legs. Having seen the area where some ancient boats had been found it was no surprise that Mint believed this to be the area the French/Maltese section of the Jarv family had landed. After around 3 miles it was time to say goodbye to the Humber and head through woodland alongside North Ferriby. Mint pointed out that this would be a good place to do some meddling with a bird (if he had one). Slightly worryingly this topic also seemed to reoccur at corn fields, farmers buildings etc. Little does the delightful Bev know of some of these locations she has to perform in.

Perhaps the least scenic part of the trail was encountered before Welton as detour had to be taken along the A63. This involved crossing a bridge that was seemingly not finished and the worlds largest tent sale. However Mint did spot a nice George Cross number and yet again taking away his Bev in it was mentioned.

The pair finally arrived at the Green Dragon in Welton - famous as the location Dick Turpin was captured. Mint went for his usual Lager wheras he choose a delightful beer for Jarv (Wrangham's Grand Old Duke). The pair decided this was pretty much the unofficial half way point of the days work. Jarv also admitted to a small buzzarding incident with a young lady from Weltons only hair salon.

Leaving Welton a gradual incline welcomed the walkers to the first climb into the Wolds. This section took quite some time and it came as a bit of suprise to arrive at Brantingham church to find a sign advertising South Cave to 3.5 miles away - a mile and a half more than antiticipated.

Depsite having decent weather for well over 3 hours Jarv and Mint then found themselves engulfed by a stormy mini climate which tested them to the full. Arriving at South Cave they were ready for the delightful Spag Bol' provided by Mint's brother in law. Also the household dog prefered Jarv to Mint.
